For today’s reading pleasure, Althea would like to rec Neverending Math Equation by twanza.

Summary: Based in Brooklyn. Edward & Jasper are brothers dealing with ego, passion and the pursuit of art. NEME is a love story of Jasper & Bella, a lust story of Edward & Bella, and a journey for all. *2010 Indie TwiFic Winner/Best Love Triangle WIP *

insanemum submitted this rec and when we asked her why we should read it, here’s what she said:

Sophisticated and mature writing in fanfic is not always easy to find. We all want lemon, we all want plot, we all want well developed characters. We don’t always get what we want. Well with this story, you get all that and a whole lot more. I was hooked from the first chapter.

Edward was the brilliant child prodigy – a mathematician as well as a musician. He has spent his life pleasing his rather tyrannical father Carlisle, but has now reached a crossroads in his life. He flees from Boston in search of a new life and seeks out his somewhat estranged older brother Jasper, who lives in NY.

Jasper left home at 18, never being able to live up to his fathers’ high expectations. After drifting for several years, he winds up owning a tattoo parlour in Brooklyn. Edward comes to crash at Jasper’s place while he figures out what to do with the rest of his life.

Bella is the owner of the bakery across the road from Jasper’s shop. Jasper has secretly desired her from afar for 3 long years. Within days of his arrival, Edward manages to do what Jasper has not been able to – get Bella into his bed. Cue a battle royal between the brothers. Who will win Bella’s heart. Who indeed?

This story is a breathtaking, heartbreaking, feast of writing – it has the lot. Poor Bella! What a decision to have to make between these 2 gorgeous brothers, but decide she must. It is full of elegant detail, with an action packed plot. I couldn’t wait to get to the next chapter. You want lemon – we got lemon! Passionate, intense, somtimes brutal lemon. There is so much to love about this story. Secondary characterizations were also excellent. While I usually love a warm daddy Carlisle, the Carlisle in this story is cool and aloof and often condescending, which works perfectly in the context of this story. I want everyone to read this fic, and if you find another one like this, please rec it to me! This kind of story is right up my alley.

Here’s what Althea had to say about Neverending Math Equation:

Jasper has been friends with Bella for years but has yet to make the move to declare what they both are feeling for each other. A lost Edward swoops into his brother Jasper’s life and makes the move that Jasper hasn’t. A Geekward who is NO SLOUCH in the bedroom. Thank you, twanza. This is the love triangle that won NEME an Indie Twific Award. I am about halfway through and I can’t decide who I’m rooting for.

But there is so much more to this fic. The brothers both have a complicated history with their father, Carlisle. The backstory is fascinating and plays directly into the issues that Jasper and Edward are dealing with in the present. Carlisle is a tremendously rich character. As is Esme – who almost always falls flat for me in fic.

And last but not least, this story is set in my city: BROOKLYN!! She is right on in how she captures the essence of city living and the landscape of Brooklyn in particular. She paints a picture of the scene and then brings you into the smells and sounds of it.

The author is amazing in replying to reviews and engaging in a back-and-forth about her story. PLUS, she hooked me up with a walking tour of the places in Brooklyn where the story takes place. HOW COOL IS THAT?!
